Residential cleaning is something everyone should have a basic understanding of by a certain age, but there is always room to keep learning. The more you know about residential cleaning, the better your space will be for your health and comfort.
Here are a few things we think everyone should know about residential cleaning:
- Clean top to bottom. This is a very basic principle that many people overlook. When you are dusting, for example, you wouldn’t start by dusting the window sill and then the blinds because that dust will fall right back onto the window sill. The proper order makes a difference. It’s similar to when you clean in the bathroom. Start at the top of the toilet before moving to the dirtiest parts, like the seat.
- Cleaning services are worthwhile. Residential cleaning services may not seem accessible to you, but one of the best things about them is they are often customizable, as in you may be able to customize the schedule. Even if you can’t afford to hire someone to clean weekly, you can hire a professional every once in a while for special tasks like deep cleaning or move-out cleaning.
- Vinegar can’t be used for everything. One residential cleaning mistake people make is relying too heavily on DIY products for every surface. Vinegar, for instance, isn’t the all-purpose cleaner many people believe it to be. It cuts grease well, but it’s too acidic for materials like granite and wood.
- Your washing machines don’t necessarily wash themselves. Even though your laundry machine and dishwasher are made to wash things, they don’t wash themselves while they are cleaning clothes and dishes. However, many machines do have a self-cleaning cycle you can use.
